Westminster Dog Trainer

Dog Training in Westminster

With a history dating back to 2000, It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy has been serving dogs and humans in an effort to be an invaluable asset to the Westminster community. At 8 years old, Karen Wildaman, now our President and Training Director, took her first steps into the world of dog training. With extensive professional experience and recognized certifications from reputable organizations like the American Pro Dog Training Association and Animal Behavior College, she is now a celebrated dog trainer with an advanced understanding of canine psychology and behavior. Through her compassionate and results-oriented methods, Karen has assisted countless dogs and their caregivers in cultivating strong bonds and achieving obedience and harmony.

It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy is founded on the principle that educating your dog is essential for their happiness, health, and successful navigation of our human world. Our objective is to strengthen the bond between you and your four-legged companion by employing positive reinforcement methods that are customized to your unique situation. Our focus is on ensuring your dog’s achievements while avoiding any use of excessive force or abusive methods. Leveraging over twenty years of practical knowledge and a history of successful outcomes, our training services span from basic obedience to the resolution of challenging behaviors. Dedicated to promoting thriving and joyous relationships between pets and their loving caregivers, our team of expert trainers is passionate about their important work.

The Importance of Dog Training

It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy provides many advantages, including the leadership of certified trainers with years of knowledge, reinforcement methods focused on positivity and trust, and personalized programs designed for your dog’s needs. With these resources, both pets and owners gain the skills to communicate effectively, strengthening trust and creating a balanced relationship that brings greater happiness, improved health, and a more fulfilling life together rooted in respect and companionship.

Dog training provides meaningful benefits for puppies, adult dogs, and seniors alike by shaping good habits, improving communication, and reinforcing the human-animal relationship. It’s a common misconception (and even a well-known idiom) that older dogs are past the point of learning – but in reality, they can adjust and pick up new behaviors just like they could at a younger age. Since dogs are naturally intelligent and responsive, training continues to benefit them long-term. By working with a professional dog training service, pets gain access to consistent structure, expert leadership, and effective, compassionate techniques that supply them with the necessary training and proper support.

AKC® Urban CGC

Take advantage of our AKC® CGC dog training services for a program that sharpens your dog’s behavior in public surroundings. The program is tailored to prepare dogs for experiences such as dealing with crowds, walking near traffic, visiting stores, and beyond. Sessions are scheduled every Saturday at 1:00 pm and end with a test. Participation requires your dog to have both an AKC® registration number and the Canine Good Citizen title. Aggressive dogs cannot be admitted, but service animals and adopted pets benefit from a $10 discount. If you think your dog might need a higher level of support, we’re happy to connect you with a dog aggression trainer or dog reactivity trainer.

AKC® Trick Dog Classes

Enroll in the AKC® Trick Dog Class at It’s A Dog’s World K9 Academy and share six weeks of fun interaction with your loyal companion! Over the course, your dog will be introduced to amusing tricks like crawling, shaking paws, high-fiving, barking on cue, spinning in circles, playing dead, jumping through a hoop, and more. After performing a specific number of learned tricks, your pet becomes eligible to proudly hold the AKC® “Novice” or “Intermediate” Trick Dog Title.

The Novice assessment requires dogs to perform 10 tricks (or only 5 for those with a CGC title), while the Intermediate assessment calls for an additional 10 tricks. This program is supervised by AKC®-certified CGC Evaluators, and it’s suitable for dogs at least 6 months old who have completed Basic Obedience or an equivalent course. This is a rewarding chance to strengthen your connection, refine abilities, and build unforgettable memories with your loyal canine pal!

Obedience Training

Our Group Obedience classes are a dynamic way to teach your dog essential manners while learning alongside other owners. Limited to 12 pairs, these sessions allow you to work directly with a skilled local dog trainer for seven weeks of structured learning. Each one-hour class is reinforced with daily 45-minute practice to ensure your dog masters vital skills. Commands such as heel, recall, loose leash walking, down stays, and sit are covered, along with tackling everyday behavior challenges. Instruction also includes topics like greetings, exercise, nutrition, and practicing obedience with distractions as far as 30 feet away. To build on these foundations, two Intermediate Obedience levels prepare dogs for the AKC® Canine Good Citizen and Community Canine evaluations. These certifications don’t just improve manners, but also bring legal advantages. Enroll today to give your companion greater confidence, improved skills, and enhanced social behavior!

Service Dog Training

Our Westminster service dog training is a robust program directed by a certified service dog trainer to give each dog the proper guidance and support. The K-9 trainer first conducts a free consultation and assessment to determine the dog’s aptitude and evaluate specific service requirements. After this, your service dog trainer in Westminster customizes a three-stage K-9 training plan, offering group classes like Urban Canine, CGC Level I & II, and Basic, plus private field lessons, in-home or off-site sessions, and board and train opportunities with a local K-9 trainer. Testing for certifications like AKC Community Canine®, AKC Canine Good Citizen®, Urban Canine Good Citizen®, and the Public Access Test is included to secure recognized credentials.

The training process is difficult, not every dog will be able to pass, and some may not qualify as strong candidates, but those who thrive and complete the course will ultimately be presented with a Certification ID card. Your K-9 trainer in Westminster will let you know that participation and availability during lessons and instruction are necessary for complete training, provided that you are physically able to play an active part. Contact our team to learn more details and book a consultation that works with your schedule.
