Dog Training in Tustin
Serving our Tustin community for over 20 years, It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy is dedicated to the well-being of dogs and the humans who love them. At 8 years old, Karen Wildaman, now our President and Training Director, took her first steps into the world of dog training. With decades of professional experience and certifications from prestigious institutions like the American Pro Dog Training Association and Animal Behavior College, she has become a seasoned dog trainer with a profound grasp of canine psychology and behavior. Through her compassionate and impactful methods, Karen has guided countless dogs and their loving humans in establishing solid relationships and achieving obedience and balance.
At It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy, we stand by the principle that giving your dog an education is crucial for their physical health, mental wellness, and harmonious coexistence in our human world. Our mission is to enhance the relationship between you and your cherished pet by utilizing positive reinforcement strategies that are tailored to your individual circumstances. We place emphasis on your dog’s progress, refraining from harsh force or abusive tactics. With more than two decades of hands-on experience and a history of successful outcomes, our training services encompass a wide spectrum, from foundational obedience to handling difficult behaviors. Our trainers are dedicated to fostering positive and fulfilling relationships between pets and their loving humans.

AKC® Trick Dog Classes
Participate in the AKC® Trick Dog Class at It’s A Dog’s World K9 Academy and take part in six weeks of laughter and learning with your canine friend! This engaging course allows dogs to try entertaining tricks, including playing dead, barking on cue, shaking paws, high-fiving, crawling, spinning in circles, jumping through a hoop, and more. Once your dog successfully demonstrates a required number of these tricks, they can be awarded the AKC® “Intermediate” or “Novice” Trick Dog Title.
In order to pass the Novice test, dogs must successfully show 10 tricks (or 5 if they already have a CGC title), while Intermediate requires an extra 10 tricks. Under the supervision of AKC®-certified CGC Evaluators, this program is designed for dogs 6 months and older who have completed Basic Obedience or equivalent training. This is an enjoyable way to improve skills, build strong bonds, and make lasting memories with your dog!

In addition to obedience training, service dog training, and our AKC® Trick Dog Class, we also offer:

If you’re not sure where to begin, our experienced team is happy to discuss our many options and help you design a training plan that meets your dog’s specific needs. Whether it’s one-on-one training in your own space, exploring our K-9 training service options, beginning with the basics, or working with a dog anxiety trainer who can help your pet feel calm and confident, we’ll connect you with a dog trainer in Tustin who has the expertise to guide you and your dog in accomplishing all your desired milestones.
Service Dog Training
Our Tustin service dog training program provides comprehensive instruction led by a certified service dog trainer to give dogs the skills they need for effective service work. A K-9 trainer will first conduct a free consultation and assessment to evaluate your dog’s temperament, skills, and suitability for service roles, along with determining your specific assistance requirements. Next, your service dog trainer in Tustin develops a three-stage K-9 training plan that can include group classes such as Basic, CGC Level I & II, and Urban Canine, along with private field lessons, in-home or off-site sessions, and board and train opportunities with a local K-9 trainer. Testing for certifications like AKC Community Canine®, AKC Canine Good Citizen®, Urban Canine Good Citizen®, and the Public Access Test is included to secure recognized credentials.
The training is demanding, not all dogs will succeed, and some may fall short of being proper candidates, but those who rise to the challenge and complete the course will obtain a Certification ID card. Your involvement and reliability in showing up for instruction and lessons are essential to the process, so your K-9 trainer in Tustin will request your participation as long as you can physically participate. Please contact us for additional information and to book a consultation time that best accommodates your schedule.
AKC® Urban CGC
Take part in our AKC® CGC dog training services for a practical, straightforward path to improving canine manners in public environments. The class addresses real-world challenges such as handling crowds, facing traffic, managing stores, and more. Sessions run every Saturday at 1:00 pm and finish with an evaluation test. Prerequisites include holding the Canine Good Citizen title and an official AKC® registration number. Aggressive dogs cannot participate, but service animals and adopted dogs may take advantage of a $10 discount. For dogs who have greater needs, extra guidance is available from a dog reactivity trainer or dog aggression trainer.
Obedience Training
Our obedience training program offers Group Obedience courses led by an experienced local dog trainer who helps both owners and dogs achieve long-term success. Groups are limited to 12 participants, which provides plenty of personal attention during the seven-week program. Each week, you’ll attend a one-hour session, supported by 45 minutes of at-home practice daily. Your dog will be introduced to key commands like heel, down stays, recall, sit, and loose leash walking while addressing undesirable behaviors. Sessions also cover broader needs such as greetings, nutrition, obedience with distractions up to 30 feet, and regular exercise. After completing this stage, two Intermediate Obedience levels give dogs additional skills and confidence to prepare them for the AKC® Community Canine and Canine Good Citizen certifications. These designations provide legal advantages and promote well-mannered behavior. Help your companion shine with proven, positive training methods today!
