Walnut Dog Trainer

Dog Training in Walnut

It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy, a trusted name since 2000, has been dedicated to serving both dogs and humans in our Walnut community since day one. Karen Wildaman, our President and Training Director, discovered her passion for training dogs at the age of 8. With extensive professional experience and certifications from reputable institutions like the American Pro Dog Training Association and Animal Behavior College, she has become a skilled dog trainer with a profound understanding of canine psychology and behavior. With her compassionate and effective methods, Karen has helped countless dogs and their humans build strong connections and achieve a balance of obedience and unity.

It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy is founded on the principle that educating your dog is essential for their happiness, health, and successful navigation of our human world. We are committed to enhancing the connection between you and your furry friend through the use of positive reinforcement techniques that are tailored to your unique circumstances. We prioritize your dog’s advancement while rejecting harsh force or abusive practices. With over twenty years of experience and a long track record of success, we offer a comprehensive range of training services that range from basic obedience to addressing challenging behaviors. Because we’re committed to building strong and loving connections between pets and their caring parents, our team of expert trainers is here to support you.

The Importance of Dog Training

Dog training matters for dogs throughout their lives because it encourages proper behavior, strengthens interaction with families, and creates lifelong bonds. It’s a common misconception (and even a well-known idiom) that older dogs are past the point of learning – but in reality, they can adjust and pick up new behaviors just like they could at a younger age. Professional involvement makes a significant difference because our dog training service provides structure, knowledgeable instruction, and humane approaches. This approach plays an essential role in making sure each dog receives helpful guidance and appropriate training.

At It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy, you’ll find personalized training plans suited to your dog, positive reinforcement strategies that encourage cooperation, and the professional support of skilled, certified trainers. Together, these tools help you and your companion build trust and understanding, creating a well-balanced, fulfilling relationship that nurtures your pet’s happiness while also enriching your life with a healthier, more joyful bond every day.

What Sets Us Apart

Karen Wildaman and our team focus on building trust and adopting holistic methods. We believe in adapting our methods to suit the specific requirements of each dog, whether that involves incorporating essential oils for relaxation and focus, providing personalized attention, or extending ongoing support. Our goal is to create a harmonious relationship between you and your furry companion, built on mutual understanding and respect. We work hard every day to establish a nurturing learning environment that supports your dog’s learning journey. Our innovative methods guarantee ongoing achievement and joy for you and your cherished companion.

Obedience Training

Our Group Obedience program introduces dogs and owners to practical training methods under the guidance of a knowledgeable local dog trainer. Designed for up to 12 owners and dogs, this seven-week program features hour-long weekly classes and daily 45-minute practices at home. Skills covered include loose leash walking, down stays, sit, heel, and recall, while also managing common challenges. Training also incorporates nutrition, greetings, regular exercise, and working with distractions as far as 30 feet away. To build on these foundations, two Intermediate Obedience levels prepare dogs for the AKC® Canine Good Citizen and Community Canine evaluations. These certifications validate your dog’s skills, enhance their reputation, and offer legal protections. Give your pet the tools to thrive socially and succeed in obedience!

Service Dog Training

Our Walnut service dog training program is a carefully structured system managed by a certified service dog trainer and designed to prepare dogs for assistance roles. Each K-9 trainer begins by conducting a free consultation and assessment to determine the dog’s suitability for assistance work and understand your specific needs. The service dog trainer in Walnut then develops a three-stage K-9 training protocol, which can include group classes such as CGC Level I & II, Urban Canine, and Basic, along with board and train programs, private field instruction, and in-home or off-site lessons with a local K-9 trainer. Testing for certifications such as AKC Canine Good Citizen®, AKC Community Canine®, Urban Canine Good Citizen®, and a Public Access Test is included for full credentialing.

The training is quite rigorous, not all dogs will make it through successfully, and some may not be the right candidates, but those that do excel and finish the program will be issued a Certification ID card. Your attendance and engagement in both lessons and instruction are critical to full development, so your K-9 trainer in Walnut will ask you to participate if you are physically able to take part. Connect with us now to receive additional information and schedule your consultation for a time that works well for you.

AKC® Urban CGC

With our AKC® CGC dog training services, you’ll receive a focused program that strengthens your dog’s public behavior skills. The class addresses real-world challenges such as handling crowds, facing traffic, managing stores, and more. Each session meets on Saturdays at 1:00 pm, with the course wrapping up in a testing evaluation. Enrollment requires your dog to already have the Canine Good Citizen title and an AKC® registration number. Aggressive dogs are not permitted, and service dogs or adopted dogs are given a $10 discount. If your dog needs more targeted correction, we can pair you with a dog reactivity trainer or dog aggression trainer.

AKC® Trick Dog Classes

Take part in the AKC® Trick Dog Class at It’s A Dog’s World K9 Academy and enjoy a lighthearted six-week program with your four-legged companion! Dogs in the program learn endearing tricks such as high-fiving, playing dead, spinning in circles, crawling, barking on cue, jumping through a hoop, shaking paws, and other impressive stunts. Once your dog successfully demonstrates a required number of these tricks, they can be awarded the AKC® “Intermediate” or “Novice” Trick Dog Title.

At the Novice stage, dogs must perform 10 tricks (or 5 if they have earned a CGC title), and the Intermediate level requires another 10 tricks. Under the supervision of AKC®-certified CGC Evaluators, this program is designed for dogs 6 months and older who have completed Basic Obedience or equivalent training. Don’t miss this chance to grow your partnership, improve your dog’s abilities, and create cherished, long-lasting memories together!
