Dog Training in Orange

It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy has been proudly serving our canine and human neighbors in the Orange community since 2000. Our President and Training Director, Karen Wildaman, discovered her love for training dogs at just 8 years old. Having honed her skills over decades and becoming certified by esteemed institutions like the American Pro Dog Training Association and Animal Behavior College, she is recognized as an expert dog trainer with a deep understanding of canine behavior and psychology. Karen’s caring and effective techniques have empowered numerous dogs and their caregivers to foster deep connections and attain obedience and serenity.

At It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy, we strongly believe that educating your dog is essential for their happiness and for their seamless adaptation to our human society. We strive to fortify the bond between you and your beloved dog by utilizing positive reinforcement methods that are tailored to your specific requirements. Our primary concern is your dog’s progress, so we never resort to aggressive force or harmful methods. Drawing on over two decades of experience and a track record of success, we provide a wide-ranging selection of training services that address everything from basic obedience to challenging behavior concerns. Committed to nurturing joyful and harmonious connections between pets and their caring guardians, our team of adept trainers is always here for you.

The Importance of Dog Training

Dog training is valuable at every stage of a dog’s life because it promotes good manners, improving communication with families, and building strong, lasting bonds. The belief that older dogs cannot learn effectively is inaccurate, because they remain just as capable of adapting and developing new skills at all ages. A professional dog training service adds value by delivering structured learning, specialized expertise, and gentle, yet effective methods. With this guidance, dogs receive the assistance and training they truly deserve for lifelong success.

At It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy, dogs enjoy personalized training plans built for their needs, expert instruction from certified trainers, and a positive reinforcement philosophy that emphasizes cooperation and trust. This combination creates an environment where pets and owners learn together, strengthen their relationship, and pave the way for a more balanced, joyful, and healthy life shared between you and your loyal companion.

AKC® Urban CGC

Take advantage of our AKC® CGC dog training services for a program that sharpens your dog’s behavior in public surroundings. This class is designed to prepare for situations like dealing with traffic, entering stores, encountering crowds, and more. Sessions are scheduled every Saturday at 1:00 pm, and the program concludes with a test. Dogs must already hold the Canine Good Citizen title and an AKC® registration number before registering. Aggressive behavior is not allowed, but service dogs and adopted dogs are offered a $10 discount. If your dog has greater training needs and doesn’t qualify for this course, we can put you in touch with a dog reactivity trainer or dog aggression trainer.

AKC® Trick Dog Classes

Join the AKC® Trick Dog Class at It’s A Dog’s World K9 Academy and enjoy six weeks of interactive fun with your dog! Throughout the course, your dog will master entertaining skills like spinning in circles, crawling, playing dead, barking on cue, shaking paws, jumping through a hoop, high-fiving, and several others. By performing the designated number of tricks, your pet will qualify for the AKC® “Novice” or “Intermediate” Trick Dog Title and gain well-earned recognition.

In order to pass the Novice test, dogs must successfully show 10 tricks (or 5 if they already have a CGC title), while Intermediate requires an extra 10 tricks. Overseen by AKC®-certified CGC Evaluators, this program is available to dogs 6 months or older who have completed a Basic Obedience course or similar foundational training. Take advantage of this special opportunity to deepen your bond, enhance performance, and enjoy memorable moments alongside your furry companion!

Obedience Training

Our Group Obedience classes create the perfect environment to strengthen the bond between you and your dog, all under the guidance of a caring local dog trainer. Limited to just 12 dogs and owners, this seven-week program provides personalized attention and effective strategies. Skills covered include loose leash walking, down stays, sit, heel, and recall, while also managing common challenges. Instruction also includes topics like greetings, exercise, nutrition, and practicing obedience with distractions as far as 30 feet away. After completing this stage, two Intermediate Obedience levels give dogs additional skills and confidence to prepare them for the AKC® Community Canine and Canine Good Citizen certifications. These certifications highlight your dog’s skills, add legal benefits, and ensure well-mannered behavior. Build lasting confidence and improve obedience with training that supports both pets and owners!

Service Dog Training

Our Orange service dog training provides a detailed, step-by-step program under the guidance of a certified service dog trainer. A K-9 trainer will first conduct a free consultation and assessment to evaluate your dog’s temperament, skills, and suitability for service roles, along with determining your specific assistance requirements. The service dog trainer in Orange then develops a three-stage K-9 training protocol, which can include group classes such as CGC Level I & II, Urban Canine, and Basic, along with board and train programs, private field instruction, and in-home or off-site lessons with a local K-9 trainer. Certification testing includes Urban Canine Good Citizen®, AKC Canine Good Citizen®, AKC Community Canine®, and a Public Access Test to validate skills.

The training is highly demanding, not all dogs will succeed, and some may prove to be unsuitable candidates, but those who do well and finish the program will be awarded a Certification ID card. Your active involvement and willingness to attend lessons and instruction are essential parts of your dog’s complete development, so your K-9 trainer in Orange will require your participation if you are physically able to take part. Contact our team to learn more details and book a consultation that works with your schedule.
