Do’s
Do know what your training options are.
Training varies and depending on what type of dog you have and what their disposition is, not all programs are created equal. At It’s A Dog’s World, we offer group classes, board and train programs, in-home training and more.
Do have a consultation.
Now that you know that there are different types of training, schedule a time for a consultation. Trainers can answer any questions you may have about the various types of training programs and can help you decide what fits best for your pup. The consultation can also create the opportunity for the trainer to assess your dog and see if they have any weaknesses or strengths you may not have already been aware of.
Don’ts
Don’t procrastinate!
If you have a puppy, recently rescued an adult dog, or have a pup that you feel needs enrichment, don’t put off training. The longer you wait the more time you lose so don’t hesitate to set the training ball in motion. There’s no time like the New Year to promote good habits and behaviors.
Don’t be inconsistent.
Once you’ve identified the right program, stick to it. Trainers will layout strategies and methods at each session that you can work on with your dog. Practice makes perfect and training is no exception. This applies to puppies just out of training and seasoned pets who still need love and attention to keep their skills sharp. Don’t let routines fade and keep training consistent!
