The Perks of Board & Train
March 15, 2019The Season for Socializing
May 26, 2019It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy takes great pride in training all canine breeds of all sizes. Our skilled team develops healthy, happy and well behaved pups, coaching them in areas from basic obedience to socialization and beyond. It’s A Dog’s World is proud to announce their new Service Dog Training Program, and their new Service Dog Trainer, Deborah Norman.
The new and elite program trains dogs to support owners experiencing PTSD, anxiety, depression, physical disabilities, and even health conditions including diabetes. At the helm of this valuable program is Deborah, who comes to It’s A Dog’s World with more than three decades of experience, specializing in Service Dog Training. She’s a Certified Pet Dog Trainer, Certified Instructor, and Behavioralist. The seasoned trainer will bring further support and new expertise in this specialized training.
To quickly sum up the Service Dog Training process, Deborah finds the right pup for training. This can be a client’s current pet if they pass specific testing, or a new dog that’s been hand-picked to support the client. Deborah will customize a training plan that’s tailored to the specific area of service, building a foundation that stands on basic obedience and rises to meet the specialized needs of their human.
Given Deborah’s many years of experience and extensive training background, she is an incredible addition to the It’s A Dog’s World team that knows how to find the right dog for the right owner or train an existing pet to lend new support.
“Training a good service dog is really about finding the right pup, or recognizing the right qualifiers in your current pet,” says Deborah. “Once we have identified a great dog that would work well with a person, we set to work bringing out their best qualities. We provide the training and confidence needed to be a successful emotional support animal, and teach the owner to understand their cues.”
Deborah points out that while she’s capable of training seeing eye dogs, she recommends that people looking for this type of service dog visit Guide Dogs of America, because she believes in aligning people with the best trainers for their needs.
“We are beyond thrilled to welcome Deborah to the team,” Karen Widaman, Owner and Director of It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy said. “Not only is she an amazing trainer with a specialized skill set, she has a heart of gold and is a true asset to our fabulous team.”
Prior to joining It’s A Dog’s World, Deborah was one of the original trainers with the Prison Pup Program. During her time with the organization, she worked with inmates in rehabilitative programs that gave them job skills for their future. She had a remarkable success rate, and helped male and female inmates learn how to care for and train dogs for while giving them an opportunity for work after their release. Now focused on working with clients and dogs in a more intimate manner, Deborah can’t wait to share her expertise and knowledge through It’s A Dogs World with those who need it most.
