Looking for a way to keep your pup engaged? Whether you’re welcoming a new puppy or hoping to ignite new energy in your older pet, there are many ways to keep your dog active and learning throughout their life. Keep reading for tips and tricks on ways to keep your doggo entertained and stimulated!
New Year’s Resolutions for Your Pet
Setting goals for your pup is just as important as setting goals for yourself. The New Year is a wonderful opportunity to make positive changes or revisit prior good habits. For your doggo, make sure dental hygiene is on your radar. Brushing their teeth is important for healthy gums and promotes good breath – better to enjoy those kisses! It’s also good to set goals including updating pet info as needed, keeping them exercised even in cold weather, and keeping them social. For information on It’s A Dog’s World Yappy Hour, click here.
Make a New Year Appointment with your Vet
As the New Year draws near, it’s time to take a look at your pet’s health. Even if they appear happy and healthy as ever, an annual well-check is vital to keeping dog on the right health track. It’s also a great opportunity to make sure they’re up on all their shots, and to check their weight to see if any dietary adjustments need to be made in 2018.
Trick or Treat (in January?!)
When the weather outside is frightful, or at least chilly, it doesn’t mean playtime needs to cease. Finding new ways to keep your pet active indoors can be as simple as finding new ways to engage them during eating times. Offer meals in a feeding toy versus a food bowl to help keep them entertained and working toward something. Try a Kong or similar product. The same goes for treat time, try using hide and seek by making the treats fairly obvious then gradually make them harder to find. *Do not use these tricks if your dog is food aggressive.
