It’s important to understand the advantages and disadvantages of dog parks before you and your dog participate in dog interaction at one. It’s also good to know proper etiquette while at a dog park. Here are some pros and cons and tips and tidbits to make your dog park experience memorable.
Some Pros to Consider
- Dog and dog to people socialization is a plus
- There are opportunities to meet other dog enthusiasts
- Exercise in a safe open area is great for dogs
- Dog parks promote off-leash play in a designated area; eliminating some off-leash play in public parks
- Allows owners to observe their dogs at play and report back to their dog academy or trainer
- Minimal nearby traffic, bikes, etc. often experienced at public parks
Some Cons to Consider
