Dog Training in Montevallo
Since 2000, It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy has been actively serving the dogs and people in our Montevallo community. The President and Training Director, Karen Wildaman, began her remarkable journey in dog training at the age of 8. Now an expert dog trainer with decades of professional experience, certifications from the American Pro Dog Training Association and Animal Behavior College, and a variety of other impressive credentials, she has a deep understanding of canine behavior and psychology. With her compassionate and impactful methods, Karen has helped countless dogs and their owners cultivate lasting bonds and achieve obedience and equilibrium.
Our philosophy at It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy is rooted in the belief that providing your dog with an education is essential for their overall well-being and for their positive interaction with every human they encounter. We aim to enhance the connection between you and your canine companion by employing personalized positive reinforcement techniques that suit your individual needs. We focus on fostering your dog’s growth by rejecting abusive practices or harsh force. Backed by two decades of expertise and a proven history of achievement, we provide an extensive array of training solutions covering everything from fundamental obedience to tackling complex behaviors. Our trainers are dedicated to nurturing positive and fulfilling relationships between pets and their loving humans.
The Importance of Dog Training
When you choose It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy, your dog benefits from customized training plans tailored to individual needs, a compassionate positive reinforcement style, and the guidance of highly experienced, certified trainers. This thoughtful approach builds trust and strengthens your bond, creating a harmonious relationship that allows you and your canine companion to enjoy a happier and healthier life together.
At every age, dog training supports a dog’s well-being by promoting desirable behavior, enhancing understanding with their families, and deepening trust. The belief that older dogs cannot learn effectively is inaccurate, because they remain just as capable of adapting and developing new skills at all ages. Since dogs are naturally intelligent and responsive, training continues to benefit them long-term. By working with a professional dog training service, pets gain access to consistent structure, expert leadership, and effective, compassionate techniques that supply them with the necessary training and proper support.
Obedience Training
Our Group Obedience classes are a dynamic way to teach your dog essential manners while learning alongside other owners. With group sizes capped at 12, each seven-week course blends one-hour weekly classes with 45 minutes of daily practice at home. You’ll work on important commands including down stays, loose leash walking, heel, recall, and sit, while also addressing common behavior problems. Beyond obedience, topics include exercise routines, nutrition advice, greetings, and handling distractions up to 30 feet away. Two levels of Intermediate Obedience are available to continue your dog’s progress and prepare them for the AKC® Community Canine and Canine Good Citizen evaluations. These designations provide legal advantages and promote well-mannered behavior. Help your companion shine with proven, positive training methods today!
Service Dog Training
Our Montevallo service dog training is a robust program directed by a certified service dog trainer to give each dog the proper guidance and support. Each K-9 trainer begins with a free consultation and assessment to evaluate suitability, temperament, and the handler’s specific service requirements. The service dog trainer in Montevallo then implements a three-phase K-9 training plan, featuring group classes such as Basic, CGC Level I & II, and Urban Canine, as well as board and train options, private field instruction, and in-home or off-site private sessions with a local K-9 trainer. Available certifications include AKC Canine Good Citizen®, AKC Community Canine®, Urban Canine Good Citizen®, and a Public Access Test to confirm skills and readiness.
The training process is difficult, not every dog will be able to pass, and some may not qualify as strong candidates, but those who thrive and complete the course will ultimately be presented with a Certification ID card. Your dedication and time commitment to lessons and instruction are vital for your dog’s progress, as required by your K-9 trainer in Montevallo, provided you can physically participate. Reach out to us today to get more information and arrange a consultation that works with your availability.
AKC® Urban CGC
Join our AKC® CGC dog training services to focus on practical skills that enhance canine behavior in public settings. The course readies your dog for environments that may involve busy traffic, lively crowds, trips into stores, and other challenges. Classes take place on Saturdays at 1:00 pm and conclude with a test to measure progress. Prerequisites include holding the Canine Good Citizen title and an official AKC® registration number. Dogs that show aggression cannot join, but adopted pets and service animals qualify for a $10 discount. If you think your dog might need a higher level of support, we’re happy to connect you with a dog aggression trainer or dog reactivity trainer.
AKC® Trick Dog Classes
Enroll in the AKC® Trick Dog Class at It’s A Dog’s World K9 Academy and share six weeks of fun interaction with your loyal companion! Dogs in the program learn endearing tricks such as high-fiving, playing dead, spinning in circles, crawling, barking on cue, jumping through a hoop, shaking paws, and other impressive stunts. Upon demonstrating a required set of tricks, your dog has the opportunity to carry the AKC® “Novice” or “Intermediate” Trick Dog Title with pride.
For the Novice test, your dog needs to show off 10 tricks (or only 5 if they have also earned a CGC title), and Intermediate involves performing another 10 tricks. This program is supervised by AKC®-certified CGC Evaluators, and it’s suitable for dogs at least 6 months old who have completed Basic Obedience or an equivalent course. This is the perfect chance to strengthen your relationship, sharpen skills, and share joyful experiences with your pet!
