We’ve rounded five tips to keep in mind around the holiday season, check them out below and get ready enjoy the holidays!
Ready For A Road Trip? Here’s How to Keep the Ride Merry and Bright
Before you hit the road with your pet, take time to plan and prepare so that everyone can enjoy the ride. Restraining your dog while traveling if the best option for the safety of you and your pet. Whether using a dog harness or securing a crate to the car, keeping them restrained will keep them from becoming too anxious and will keep them safe in the event of an accident. Don’t ever keep your pet in a truck bed or trunk and always remember to give them food, water, and restroom breaks.
Factors to Keep In Mind for a Festive Flight
If you’re traveling by plane, preparation is equally important when traveling. Check and double check your paperwork before arriving to ensure all is well for pooch and that they are in fact eligible to fly. If possible, try and fly on less populated travel days so that getting through the gate and onto the plane is less stressful. If you’re traveling with a smaller breed, make sure their kennel is the correct size to fit underneath the seat.
Parties Aren’t Always For Your Pup
Not everyone is a dog lover, and it’s important to keep that in mind when taking them to a holiday party. Plan ahead and ask the host how they feel about your pooch joining the festivities. Ask if they have a heated garage where they could keep a kennel if need be, and when you arrive take a look around for potential ways your pup could get out. Once you’ve checked the house and decide the visit will be a jolly one, enjoy your party with your pup by your side.
How to Keep Multiple Animals In High Spirits
If you’re attending a family gathering or party, again, check with your host. Ask if there will be other dogs attending, and remember, just because your dog is super friendly and social doesn’t mean everyone’s dog has the same temprament. Be prepared by knowing what to expect upon arrival and don’t be afraid to speak up to another pet owner if dogs aren’t getting along. It’s a two-way street.
Watch Out For Holiday Foods and Décor that are Hazardous
While enjoying the seasonal foods and decorations, it’s important to keep an extra eye on your pet. Avoid mistletoe and holly, which are toxic to dogs. Fatty foods are also hard on your pet’s tummy, and the same can be said for alcohol – keep the cocktails out of reach! Keep candles on tall ledges or counters, and be weary of wires and glass ornaments.
