The Virtues of Older Dogs
May 6, 2016Tips On Grooming!
July 8, 2016Summer is upon us and the season for outdoor fun has arrived! There’s something wonderful about stepping out to enjoy some fresh air with your pet, but good times can be had far beyond your front porch. We’ve rounded up five ways to enjoy the sunshine with your dog and noted a few safety hazards to be aware of as well. Grab your pooch and head outside, summer fun awaits you!
Frozen Treats
Who doesn’t love an icy cold treat during summertime? If you’re feeling the heat, your dog is too so don’t be afraid to let them enjoy a frozen snack. Try putting a mixture of peanut butter and mashed banana in your dog’s Kong, place it in a Ziplock bag and freeze for 2 – 4 hours. Give it to your pet and grab a popsicle for yourself!
Create A Backyard Water Park
If you’re environment can support a little extra use of water, this is a great activity for both you and your pet. Turn on the sprinkler and let your pooch run wild! If water resources are limited, try filling a small plastic children’s pool and keep it in the shade (add a few ice cubes too!). Your dog will welcome the relief.
Take A Lunch Break
If you look outside and see blue skies for miles, indulge in afternoon out with your pet. Most cities offer a variety of dog-friendly cafes, and welcome business from both you and your pet. Grab a leash and head out for lunch! Just remember to make sure your pet has water to drink.
Host A Canine BBQ
Summertime is synonymous with barbeques, so why not host a party for pets? Invite over friends with social dogs and enjoy everyone’s company in the backyard. You can even throw an unseasoned chicken breast on the grill and cut it up for your four-legged guests to sample. *Be sure to keep all pets away from the hot grill!
Have Dog Will Travel
Many people take a vacation during the summer months. If you’re heading somewhere pet-friendly consider taking Fido along. Camping can be fun for the whole family and a great way for your dog to get fresh air and exercise. If you’re planning a daytime getaway to the beach, check to see if there any dog-friendly beaches in your area – chances are your pet will love it!
