Teach the “Sit” Command
February 22, 2014Can Essential Oils Help Train Dogs?
March 19, 2014Does your dog scarf down the food before you are barely even able to set the bowl down? Does your dog jump on you and knock the food at of your hand at feeding time? Watch this video for a unique, super cute trick other dog owners have taught their dogs to sit and wait patiently before eating their food.
Your dog can learn this too! Impress your friends on how well trained your dog is by following these easy steps and your dog will be “praying” before diving into its food bowl as well.
- Teach your dog to sit.
- At feeding time, cue your dog to sit before you set food bowl down. You may need to use a leash to help guide/keep your dog in the sit command. Use a treat/kibble to reward your dog for small increments in sitting while you are placing food to floor. If your dog gets up before you have set bowl down, stop and help your dog to sit again. Do not put bowl down unless dog is sitting.
- Use the release word, “Amen” to allow your dog to get up and eat.
- Practice, practice, practice.
- Once your dog is sitting patiently, starting adding your “prayer” in while dog is sitting, waiting for the bowl to be placed on the floor. Be sure to say, “Amen” when finished with prayer.
That’s it! Super easy and a great way to show off your dog training skills to all your friends.
