Meet the Instructors

Elizabeth Reyes, CPDT     Owner/Director of Training

Elizabeth is the owner and director of It’s A Dog’s World K-9 Academy, Inc. Learning to train dogs at a young age has destined Elizabeth to have a rewarding career as a dog trainer and founder of a prosperous business. With over 19 years of experience, she has obtained an extensive and in-depth knowledge of the dog training industry. Her education ranges from having a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice, to personal protection training, behavioral problem solving, basic on and off leash obedience training and more! She is also a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), and the Animal Behavior Management Alliance (ABMA). She is also certified as a Personal Protection Specialist (PPS).

Liz’s extensive past experience working with canines includes security patrol work with a K-9, kennel management, assisting in veterinary hospitals, and, of course, teaching owners how to have a rewarding and responsible relationship with their pet. She is the head instructor for It’s A Dog’s World School for Dog Trainers. She is approved by the Certified Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) as a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT).

She has spent many hours attending various seminars by renowned dog trainers and behaviorists such as John Rogerson, Pia Silvani, Karen Pryor, and more.

Her training has helped owners develop a better relationship with their pet. She believes in focusing on the reasons behind animal behavior, in order to improve communication between owner and animal.

Teryn

 Teryn Hartnett

Teryn has been training dogs for over 15 years. She has a diploma in Advanced Canine Behavioral Sciences. She is a contract trainer for the ASPCA traveling around the country teaching Meet Your Match SAFER (dog aggression assessments). Previously, she worked as a Sr. Animal Behaviorist at an animal shelter. While there, she oversaw the animal behavior department and was responsible for assessing dog and cats, creating a shelter life enrichment program, and training staff and volunteers on feline-ality & animal behavior awareness.

She has trained police dogs and their handlers in protection, narcotics detection and tracking. She is one of only a few civilian instructors who have taught at the International Police K9 conference.

Teryn volunteered as a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs of America (GDA) for 15 years and was their Area Leader (conducting meetings) for 7 years.

Teryn was also an accredited senior training instructor and graduated number one in her accreditation class. She has taught a 120 hour instructor's accreditation class on learning theory, ethology, handling skills, and other canine related topics.

Teryn has attended over 400 hours of seminars by world renowned canine trainers covering subjects like aggression, problem solving, how dogs think, trick training, obedience, and more!

Teryn has written articles on animal training for magazines and newspapers and teaches seminars to dog trainers and dog owners. She was a handler for a wild animal rescue organization and appeared on the Jay Leno Show with the late Crocodile Hunter.

She is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT), certified SAFER evaluator, and a licensed therapy dog evaluator. She is also approved by the America Kennel Club (AKC) as a instructor and certifier of the Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC). Teryn is currently studying Feline Behavior and Technology.
